Getting Around Davao: A Self-Drive Guide
Francisco Bangoy International Airport sits just under 10 km northeast of downtown Davao, typically a 20–30 minute drive depending on traffic – one of the shortest airport-to-city runs of any major Philippine hub, so you’ll be on the road quickly after picking up your rental.
Nature stops close to the city – Eden Nature Park and the Philippine Eagle Center: Both are easy half-day self-drive trips. Eden Nature Park sits roughly 28–30 km up in the hills of Toril, about an hour’s drive with the climb in elevation. The Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos is around 36 km from downtown, home to the Philippines’ national bird and one of the world’s largest raptors – entrance and guided tours are inexpensive and it’s open daily.
Samal Island – ferry only for now: Samal isn’t reachable by road yet. Drive to Sasa Wharf and take the RORO (roll-on/roll-off) car ferry across – the crossing itself only takes around 15–30 minutes. A toll-free bridge connecting Davao City directly to Samal is under construction but not expected to open for a few more years, so the ferry remains the way to bring your rental across in the meantime.
However you’re planning your Davao stay – hills, wildlife, or island time – a rental keeps you on your own schedule rather than a tour operator’s. Check out our fleet above and get in touch if you’d like route suggestions for your specific itinerary.
Prefer not to drive? Book a Davao taxi or pick-up/drop-off for point-to-point rides. For construction and hauling work, see heavy equipment and truck rental in Davao. Travelling further? Compare car rental rates in other cities.
