Getting Around Cebu: A Self-Drive Guide
Landing at Mactan–Cebu International Airport, you have two ways into the city: the older Marcelo Fernan and Mactan–Mandaue bridges, or the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) — a toll expressway (around ₱90 for a car) connecting Cordova on Mactan directly to the South Road Properties area of Cebu City. Since opening, CCLEX has cut travel time between the airport and the city by anywhere from 20% to as much as 75%, depending on traffic on the older bridges.
Day trips south – Oslob, Moalboal, and Kawasan Falls: Cebu’s southern coastal road connects some of the island’s best-known stops for a self-drive itinerary: Kawasan Falls in Badian, Moalboal’s Panagsama Beach (sardine run, Pescador Island), and Oslob’s whale shark watching further south. Budget roughly 2.5–4 hours of driving each way depending on traffic, and note that many visitors combine two of these three in a single day trip rather than all three.
Island-hopping jump-off points – Bantayan and Malapascua: Both islands sit off Cebu’s northern tip and aren’t directly reachable by car, but your rental gets you to the port. Bantayan Island is reached via Hagnaya Port (roughly 3.5–4 hours’ drive north, then about a 1.5-hour ferry to Santa Fe). Malapascua is reached via Maya Port (roughly 3–4 hours’ drive, then a short 30–35 minute ferry crossing).
Whichever route you’re planning, a rental gives you the flexibility to start early and beat the day-trip crowds – something fixed-schedule tours can’t offer. Check out our fleet above and get in touch if you’d like route suggestions for your specific itinerary.
